Years of conflict have left local authorities struggling to meet the needs of farmers and provide essential animal health services. The veterinary centre, part of the Agriculture Office, was limited to a single room with basic tools, unable to address the growing demand for veterinary care. As a result, many livestock were deprived of treatment, leading to increased mortality rates due to diseases and epidemics. The large number of farmers and livestock breeders, along with the high rate of livestock mortality, made the establishment of a fully equipped veterinary centre a priority. This initiative was a key part of the district's resilience and recovery plan, developed after capacity-building workshops supported by the UNDP’s Strengthening Institutional and Economic Resilience in Yemen (SIERY) Project, funded by the European Union. Through grants provided by the SIERY Project, local authorities rehabilitated and equipped the veterinary centre, adding a quarantine room, vaccine storage, minor and major operation rooms, a pharmacy, laboratory, and administrative offices.- Thanks to UNDPYemen
