Yemen’s ports represent critical and irreplaceable infrastructure essential to commercial and humanitarian activities in Yemen. See how UNDP has worked to develop a unique public-private partnership with the government of the Netherlands, the Port of Rotterdam and the Yemeni Port Authorities to help rebuild the ports of Yemen. With 90 per cent of Yemen’s food imported, war damaged port infrastructure and limited institutional capacity has increased transport and logistics costs at each stage of the food supply chain – all of which is directly passed to the Yemeni consumer and few can afford. As Yemen teeters on the verge of wide-scale famine, and to help prevent it, UNDP Yemen worked with Port of Rotterdam and Solid Port Solutions experts – as well as Yemen Port Authorities and the Dutch Government – to organize damage and capacity assessments of the Ports of Aden and Mukalla. Find out how, if our recent port assessment findings are implemented, there will be significant improvement in Port operations – ultimately lowering the cost of food for Yemenis.- Thanks to UNDPYemen
