Beekeeping and honey production are ancient crafts that date back to the 10th century BC. The Yemeni traditional profession of beekeeping still serves as a source of income for thousands of Yemeni families. To this day, Yemeni honey maintains an excellent commercial reputation and Sidr honey, in particular, is considered one of the most expensive and finest honey varieties in the world. Yemeni honey is not only considered to be a healthy dietary supplement, but also is considered by UNDP to be one of the keys to enhancing economic resilience in Yemen, particularly in rural communities. Unfortunately, beekeeping and honey production have been affected by climate change, armed conflicts, and farmers use of pesticides. Today, @UNDP’s Yemen Emergency Crisis Response Project (#YECRP) celebrates the #WorldBeeDay, with the @WorldBank, @SFDYemen & @YMNnetwork through supporting beekeepers across the country to to address food insecurity, improve agricultural production, and support financial investments helping vulnerable families and communities mitigate and cope with the impacts of climate change.- Thanks to UNDPYemen
