A US-brokered ceasefire agreement between Sudan's warring generals has failed to stem ten days of heavy fighting, including air strikes and artillery barrages. Hundreds of people have perished, many of them civilians, and some neighbourhoods of greater Khartoum now lie in ruins. All the while, foreign governments have been scrambling to get their nationals out via road convoys, aircraft and ships.
